Elderly Couple Escape Unhurt After Car Plunges Into Backyard Pool in Sydney’s South

An elderly Sydney couple narrowly avoided injury after their vehicle crashed into a neighbour’s swimming pool in the suburb of Grays Point on Thursday evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. after a car left a residential driveway, smashed through a fence, and ended up partially submerged in a backyard pool.

According to witnesses, the 85-year-old driver was attempting to reverse and reposition the vehicle when it suddenly accelerated. The car crossed the property boundary before plunging directly into the water.

Neighbours and bystanders rushed to assist the occupants, helping the elderly man and woman safely exit the vehicle. Despite the dramatic crash, both escaped without injuries.

Video captured at the scene showed residents gathering around the pool moments after the incident as they worked to free the couple from the submerged vehicle.

The crash caused significant damage to the property’s fencing, while recovery crews later began preparations to remove the vehicle from the pool. Authorities are continuing to assess the damage as cleanup operations get underway.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing
