Fresno Man Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Crash and Foot Chase

A 25-year-old Fresno man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before crashing and attempting to flee on foot, authorities said.

According to the Fresno Police Department, the incident occurred on June 7 when officers patrolling the Marketplace at El Paseo near Herndon Avenue and Riverside Drive spotted a vehicle they recognized as stolen.

After confirming the vehicle had been reported stolen, officers attempted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Justin Boni, allegedly refused to stop and fled the area.

Police followed the vehicle for a short distance until it crashed into a center median near Brent and Palo Alto avenues. Following the collision, Boni allegedly abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.

Officers quickly located the suspect nearby and took him into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, detectives determined Boni was also a suspect in a residential burglary being investigated by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the stolen vehicle involved in the pursuit had reportedly been taken during that burglary.

Boni was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

After being released from the hospital on Friday, he was booked into the Fresno County Jail. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the charges he faces as the investigation continues.
