WARREN, Mich. — An innocent Detroit man was killed early Thursday morning after a vehicle fleeing police ran a red light and crashed into his car at a busy Warren intersection, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Remeious Washington, 48, of Detroit, was just minutes away from reaching home when the fatal collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on June 18 at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road.
According to the Warren Police Department, officers on routine patrol attempted to stop a silver Dodge Ram after noticing multiple occupants wearing ski masks while driving through residential neighborhoods. Instead of pulling over, the driver fled, leading officers on a pursuit.
Investigators said the chase ended when the Dodge Ram entered the intersection of 8 Mile and Schoenherr and ran a red light, striking Washington’s vehicle as he was attempting to move through the intersection.
The impact left Washington critically injured. He was transported by the Detroit Fire Department to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Following the crash, five juveniles exited the truck and fled on foot. Police arrested four of the suspects shortly afterward. Authorities believe the group may be connected to at least 15 vehicle-related crimes reported across Warren during the previous 48 hours.
