A 26-year-old woman narrowly escaped being raped after a police patrol intervened during a brutal attack by a group of men in Guna district, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday night (July 31, 2026). The accused allegedly dragged the woman and her male companion into a forest near Gader village, assaulted and robbed them before attempting to sexually assault the woman.
According to Guna Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal, the couple was intercepted by a group of men who forcibly took them into a nearby forest. The attackers allegedly assaulted both victims, robbed them of their mobile phone, wallet and other belongings, and later called additional associates to the scene before attempting to rape the woman.
The alleged rape attempt was foiled when a passerby alerted a police patrol. Responding officers reached the location promptly, forcing the accused to flee before the assault could be completed.
Five Arrested, Hunt On for Two More
Police have arrested five accused in connection with the incident, while two other suspects remain absconding. Search operations are underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a detailed investigation into the case.

Charges Filed
Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Dharnavada Police Station. Based on the information released by police, the offences include:
- Attempt to rape
- Robbery
- Wrongful restraint and abduction
- Voluntarily causing hurt/assault
- Criminal intimidation and other relevant BNS provisions, as applicable
Police have not yet publicly disclosed the identities of the accused, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend the two absconding suspects while collecting further evidence.
