PETERSBURG, Va. — A 26-year-old Virginia man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into an alleged sexual offense involving a 6-year-old child, according to the Petersburg Bureau of Police.
Authorities identified the suspect as Darius Mason, who was arrested after police launched an investigation on June 2. Officials announced the arrest on June 4.According to police, Mason has been charged with attempted forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, caretaker rendering a child in need of services, and caretaker taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Arrest Follows Police Investigation
The Petersburg Bureau of Police said detectives began investigating the case after receiving information regarding the alleged incident involving the young child.
Following the investigation, officers took Mason into custody and formally filed multiple charges against him.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the case in order to protect the identity and privacy of the child involved.
