DORAL, Fla. — A South Florida community is mourning the loss of a prominent real estate professional and her two young daughters after authorities confirmed a tragic murder-suicide inside an upscale Miami-area neighborhood.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, her former husband Ryan Charles Whiten, 42, and their daughters, 11-year-old Savannah Whiten and 8-year-old Sienna Whiten, were found dead inside a residence in the Doral Isles community.
Deputies responded to the home on Tuesday evening to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised about the family.
Four Family Members Found Dead
When officers arrived at the residence near Northwest 111th Court and Northwest 72nd Terrace, they discovered all four family members deceased.
Authorities said each victim had suffered stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office concluded that Ryan Whiten killed his two daughters and their mother before taking his own life.
“The investigation revealed that Mr. Whiten committed these heinous acts and then took his own life,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Melanie Hyer was known throughout South Florida’s real estate community and had built a successful career in the industry.
News of the tragedy has shocked friends, colleagues, and residents of the affluent Doral Isles neighborhood, who described the incident as heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend.

Investigation Continues
Although investigators believe the case was a murder-suicide, detectives continue reviewing evidence and interviewing individuals familiar with the family.
Authorities have not publicly discussed a possible motive.
Officials say there is no threat to the public related to the incident.
