OAKVILLE, Ontario — Halton Regional Police say they have dealt a significant blow to organized auto theft operations following two separate investigations that led to four arrests and dozens of criminal charges.
Authorities released surveillance footage showing how suspects allegedly targeted vehicles in broad daylight before quickly stealing them using sophisticated techniques.
Surveillance Captures Theft in Progress
One video released by investigators shows suspects approaching a parked vehicle in Oakville.
Within seconds, one suspect smashes a window, gains access to the vehicle, and allegedly reprograms its electronic systems before driving away.
Police say the theft was carried out with remarkable speed and precision, highlighting the growing sophistication of organized vehicle theft rings.
Suspects Returned to Stolen Vehicle
In another incident, investigators captured suspects returning to a vehicle that had previously been stolen.
Police believe the vehicle had been placed in a temporary “cooling-off” location before being transported elsewhere.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows a suspect removing the vehicle’s antenna, which investigators believe was done to disable tracking systems and make the vehicle harder to locate.
The suspect was also seen photographing the vehicle’s identification number (VIN).
Investigators believe the information was being shared with other members of the criminal organization involved in the theft operation.

Four Arrested, Dozens of Charges Laid
As a result of the investigations, Halton Regional Police arrested four individuals and laid dozens of criminal charges.
Authorities have not released full details regarding the charges but say the arrests represent a major disruption to organized auto theft activity in the region.
Police continue to investigate whether the suspects may be linked to additional vehicle thefts across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
