Six Injured in Stabbing at New York’s Penn Station, Suspect in Custody

NEW YORK CITY — Six people were injured in a stabbing at New York City’s Penn Station on Sunday evening, authorities said, prompting a major emergency response at one of the nation’s busiest transportation hubs.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near the entrance to Penn Station at West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue, directly beneath Madison Square Garden.

According to the New York City Fire Department, emergency crews responded to reports of multiple stabbing victims and found six injured individuals at the scene.

Officials said one victim suffered serious injuries, while the others sustained moderate to minor wounds. Five victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, and authorities indicated that none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. A sixth victim was taken to another hospital, though that person’s condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the attack. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or a possible motive.

The stabbing occurred inside Penn Station, a major transportation hub serving Amtrak, the Long Island Rail Road, NJ Transit, and several New York City subway lines. Hundreds of thousands of commuters and travelers pass through the station each day.

The incident has raised security concerns as New York prepares for major events at Madison Square Garden, located directly above the station. Large crowds are expected to gather in the area this week for upcoming NBA Finals-related activities and other high-profile events.

Police secured the scene and launched an investigation, while transit operations continued under heightened security measures.

Authorities have not announced any charges, and investigators are continuing to review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.

The investigation remains ongoing.
