Nearly 50 Arrested in Major Brisbane Cocaine Crackdown

Queensland Police have dismantled an alleged cocaine trafficking network operating in Brisbane’s popular entertainment districts, arresting nearly 50 people and laying more than 90 charges.

The large-scale operation was carried out over four weekends across Fortitude Valley and the nearby James Street precinct, areas known for their busy nightlife, bars, and restaurants.

Police charged 48 individuals with offences including drug trafficking, supplying dangerous drugs, producing dangerous drugs, and weapons-related crimes. During the investigation, officers seized approximately 196 grams of cocaine, more than $40,000 in cash, and several items allegedly used in the drug trade.

Body-worn camera footage released by police showed officers discovering clip-seal bags containing suspected cocaine hidden inside a locked blue container in a vehicle. Investigators also uncovered a fake soft drink can that allegedly concealed cocaine.

Authorities said the seized drugs had an estimated street value of tens of thousands of dollars.

One of the more unusual moments captured on police footage involved a suspect allegedly asking officers whether he would be released if he cooperated and whether the offences could result in jail time.

Police say the operation highlights their ongoing efforts to target drug trafficking and organized criminal activity in Brisbane’s nightlife precincts, helping improve community safety and reduce the availability of illegal drugs.

Several of those charged are expected to appear before Brisbane courts in the coming weeks.
