A 12-year-old boy is recovering after being struck by gunfire near a playground in southwest Atlanta on Friday evening, according to police. The shooting happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Windsor Street at Rosa L. Burney Park. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 6:20 p.m. and found the child suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the child was not the intended target of the shooting. Police are now searching for the person responsible and working to determine what led to the gunfire.
The incident unfolded near a playground and community pool, areas where families and children frequently gather. The shooting has left residents and local business owners shaken.
“It’s really disturbing,” said a woman who operates a speech therapy clinic next to the park. “There’s a lot of resources in place to help curb those type of violent acts here in the community.”
