A major search operation is underway in Sydney’s inner west after a man was found dead in the Parramatta River and a young girl who was reportedly with him remains missing.
Emergency services were called to Hen and Chicken Bay in Concord shortly before midday on Saturday following reports of a person in the water.
Upon arrival, responders located the body of an adult man in the Parramatta River. Despite efforts by emergency crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were informed that the man had earlier been seen in a small boat with a young girl believed to be around six or seven years old. Authorities have not been able to locate the child, prompting an urgent search of the waterway and surrounding areas.
Specialist police units, marine rescue crews, and other emergency personnel have been deployed as the search continues.
Officials have not released the identities of either the man or the missing child, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the pair or who has information that could assist investigators to come forward as efforts to find the girl continue.
