TORONTO — A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized after an overnight shooting in East York that police say is connected to a separate incident on the Leaside Bridge in which a police officer was seriously injured.
Emergency crews responded to reports of gunfire near Mortimer Avenue and Donlands Avenue at approximately 1 a.m. on Monday. Paramedics transported the teenager to hospital with injuries that were reported to be non-life-threatening.

Toronto police later confirmed that the shooting is linked to an earlier incident on the Leaside Bridge, where an officer was struck by a vehicle during an attempted stop of an allegedly stolen car.
Investigators say the suspect vehicle and driver connected to the bridge incident were located shortly afterward at the scene of the shooting in East York.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the police firearm discharge, as well as the injuries sustained by both the officer and the 13-year-old.
The officer injured on the Leaside Bridge was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Further details about the officer’s condition have not been released.
Police have not disclosed the circumstances that led to the shooting or whether any charges have been laid.
Anyone with information about either incident is being urged to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
