Teen Arrested After Armed Robbery of Children’s Lemonade Stand in Boston

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a children’s lemonade stand in Boston, police said.

The incident occurred on June 10 in the South Boston neighborhood, where 12-year-old David Byrne and his 11-year-old sister Juliette were selling lemonade on West Ninth Street. According to the siblings, two masked youths approached the stand, and one allegedly displayed a gun before taking their cash box.

The suspects fled with the money, and the cash box was later recovered empty. Authorities have not disclosed how much money was stolen.

Following the release of surveillance images and video by police, a 14-year-old suspect was arrested and is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police continue to seek information about a second suspect who remains outstanding.

The robbery drew widespread community support. The lemonade stand reopened two days later, attracting a large crowd, including Michelle Wu. City officials said a portion of the proceeds raised during the reopening would be donated to a local organization focused on preventing gun violence.

Family members and neighbors expressed shock over the incident, noting that it occurred in broad daylight and involved young children operating a neighborhood lemonade stand.
