A 26-year-old man was arrested in Fresno after police said he strangled and assaulted a woman during a domestic violence incident that was witnessed by the couple’s two young children.
According to the Fresno Police Department, officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at about 10:24 p.m. on June 12.
Investigators said the victim told officers she had been in an on-and-off relationship with Irvin Guerrero for approximately seven years and that they share two children.
Police allege that an argument escalated into violence when Guerrero grabbed the woman by her hair, placed both hands around her neck, and strangled her. He is also accused of punching her four times with a closed fist, causing injuries.
Authorities said the couple’s two minor children were present during the incident and witnessed the alleged assault.
Guerrero was taken into custody on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury, and child endangerment.
After being processed, he was booked into the Fresno County Jail. The case remains under investigation.
