A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after being stabbed during an altercation at the Merced County Fairgrounds on Sunday night, authorities said.
Deputies assigned to the fairgrounds responded to reports of a physical fight in the carnival area. Upon arrival, they discovered the teenager suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Monday, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Following an investigation, authorities identified three suspects allegedly involved in the incident. The suspects were named as Nathaniel Yanez, 26, and two juveniles whose identities have not been released because of their age.
All three suspects were taken into custody and are being held as investigators continue to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Officials said the stabbing appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, detectives are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with information or video footage from the fairgrounds to contact law enforcement.
The motive behind the altercation has not yet been disclosed.
