Las Vegas Police Release New Video in Fatal Shooting of Armed Man Who Opened Fire on Traffic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have released body camera footage, surveillance video, and emergency dispatch audio showing the events leading up to a deadly officer-involved shooting involving a man accused of firing a shotgun at passing vehicles.

Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Sergio Flores, who was shot and killed Wednesday after allegedly opening fire near Lake Mead Boulevard and Sloan Lane in northeast Las Vegas.

Gunfire Reported Near Busy Roadway

According to police, officers responded after multiple 911 callers reported a man standing near the roadway firing a shotgun toward traffic.

Dispatch audio released Friday captured the urgency of the situation as callers warned that the suspect was actively shooting at vehicles.

When officers arrived, they found Flores armed with a shotgun and repeatedly ordered him to surrender.

Authorities said Flores refused to comply and allegedly told officers they would have to shoot him.

Officers Attempted Less-Lethal Measures

Body camera footage shows officers attempting to take cover while continuing to issue commands.

Police said officers initially deployed less-lethal rounds in an effort to end the confrontation without deadly force.

However, investigators say Flores continued to ignore commands and eventually fired toward officers, prompting them to respond with gunfire.

Three officers fired a total of 13 rounds.

Flores was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

New Details Emerge About Suspect

News footage obtained from a nearby business showed Flores the day before the shooting carrying what appeared to be a shotgun case into a local pizza shop.

The business owner said staff had previously decided not to serve Flores after concerns arose about behavior that was perceived as threatening at a neighboring establishment.

Following the shooting, officers executed a search at Flores’ residence located less than half a mile from the scene.

Images from the property showed handwritten notes and messages posted around the home. Neighbors described Flores as someone who may have been struggling with personal issues, though police have not confirmed any mental health diagnosis.

Investigation Continues

Metro police said investigators are still working to determine Flores’ motive and background.

Officials confirmed that Flores had previous encounters with law enforcement involving allegations of DUI and battery, but declined to discuss additional details while the investigation remains active.

The officers involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the review.

Sixth Officer-Involved Shooting of 2026

The incident marks the sixth officer-involved shooting within Metro’s jurisdiction this year and the third fatal police shooting of 2026.

Investigators continue reviewing body camera footage, witness statements, forensic evidence, and dispatch recordings as part of the ongoing investigation.
