NĀNĀKULI, Hawaii — A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking people with a knife during a gathering at Electric Beach on Oʻahu’s west coast Saturday evening.
According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), officers responded to Kahe Point Beach Park, commonly known as Electric Beach, at approximately 8 p.m. following reports of a violent disturbance involving an armed individual.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly approached a large group of people while carrying a knife. An argument reportedly broke out, escalating into a physical struggle.
During the confrontation, a 54-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman suffered injuries. Emergency responders transported the male victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the female victim was treated at the scene. Authorities have not released details regarding the severity of their injuries.
Police arrested the 64-year-old suspect at the scene on suspicion of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.
The incident occurred at Electric Beach, a popular snorkeling and diving destination along Farrington Highway in Nānākuli. The beach is known for its warm waters and abundant marine life, attracting both residents and visitors.
HPD said the case will be reviewed by the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, which will determine what formal charges will be filed. Under Hawaii law, attempted murder in the second degree is a felony offense that can carry severe penalties, including the possibility of life imprisonment with parole eligibility upon conviction.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
