Officer and Suspect Injured as Peel Police Arrest Two During Early-Morning Investigation in Rexdale

TORONTO, Ontario — A Peel Regional Police investigation in North Etobicoke early Monday morning resulted in two arrests and injuries to both a police officer and a suspect, authorities said.

According to Peel Regional Police, officers were conducting an active criminal investigation that originated in Peel Region when they responded to the area of Humberline Drive and Finch Avenue West in Rexdale at approximately 3:20 a.m.

Police said two suspects were taken into custody during the operation, while multiple other individuals fled the scene on foot. Authorities have not released descriptions of the outstanding suspects or indicated whether they pose a threat to public safety.

During the interaction, one police officer and one suspect sustained injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Both were transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment.

Investigators have not disclosed the nature of the criminal investigation or explained why Peel Regional Police officers were operating within Toronto city limits.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, and police have not released any information regarding potential charges against those arrested.

Peel Regional Police also confirmed that Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has not been invoked in connection with the incident.

The SIU is an independent civilian oversight agency responsible for investigating incidents involving police where a person has died, suffered serious injuries, alleged sexual assault, or where a firearm has been discharged at an individual.

Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses.
