A person has been critically injured following an alleged assault in central Auckland on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were called to Wellesley St East, near the intersection with Rutland St, at about 6.45pm.
Police said one person was found with critical injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. A second person has been taken into custody.
Acting Inspector Warwick Stainton said police remained at the scene carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the incident.
Cordons have been established in the area while investigations continue, with a large police presence remaining on Wellesley St East on Tuesday night.
Hato Hone St John confirmed it had an ambulance at the scene shortly after 7pm.
Police inquiries are ongoing.
