A fisherman has died after being swept from rocks into the ocean at Evans Head in northern New South Wales on Sunday.
Witnesses reported that the man was pulled from rocks near Conner Hurley Lookout and swept into the water by the surf.
Emergency services, including NSW Police, surf lifesavers, paramedics, and officers from the Marine Area Command, responded to the incident and launched rescue efforts.
Despite attempts by first responders to revive him, the fisherman was pronounced dead at the scene.
NSW Police said initial investigations indicate the man had been fishing on a nearby rock wall when he was swept into the water.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers associated with rock fishing, particularly during rough sea conditions. Safety officials regularly urge anglers to wear life jackets, check weather and surf forecasts, and avoid fishing alone.
