Three Killed, Two Injured in Collision Involving Car and Four Motorcycles Near Peterborough
OMEMEE, Ontario — Three people were killed and two others were injured following a devastating multi-vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and four motorcycles near Peterborough on Saturday evening.
According to Ontario Provincial Police, emergency crews responded to the collision on Highway 7 between New Heights Road and Lilac Road in Omemee at approximately 6 p.m.
Investigators said the crash involved a passenger car and four motorcycles. The impact resulted in the deaths of three people.
Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man, who was driving the passenger vehicle, and a 72-year-old motorcyclist were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 65-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries but later died as a result of those injuries.
Two additional motorcyclists survived the collision. A 30-year-old man from Sudbury was transported to a regional trauma center for treatment. Authorities have not released an update on his condition. A fourth motorcyclist was treated at the scene and later released.
The collision occurred along a stretch of Highway 7 between New Heights Road and Lilac Road, prompting a large emergency response that included paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and air ambulance personnel.
Ontario Provincial Police traffic reconstruction specialists spent several hours examining the scene and gathering evidence to determine the cause of the crash.
Investigators have not released details regarding what led to the collision, and no charges have been announced.
The roadway remained closed for an extended period while police conducted their investigation.
