Police are searching for multiple gunmen after two men were fatally shot while apparently playing dominoes in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx on Thursday night.
The shooting unfolded shortly after 10 p.m. along Westchester Avenue, sending residents and bystanders scrambling for safety as gunfire rang out through the area.
According to investigators, several people fled the scene immediately after the shots were fired. Responding officers discovered two victims, aged 43 and 53, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said the men were found a short distance apart. One victim collapsed at the scene, while the other managed to make it around a nearby corner before collapsing.
Both men were rushed to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The 53-year-old victim was identified by family members as Egbert Rutherford. His wife, Angelique, said the tragedy unfolded just moments after he brought their granddaughter inside their home.
According to Angelique, Rutherford had been outside earlier with the child before returning home briefly. She said he then went back outside, and moments later gunshots erupted.
Family members expressed grief and shock following the fatal attack. Angelique described her husband as a hardworking man who spent most of his time working and caring for his family.
Crime scene investigators spent hours gathering evidence along Westchester Avenue, where numerous shell casings were visible on the ground. The area was cordoned off as detectives interviewed witnesses and searched for surveillance footage that could help identify the shooters.
Police believe multiple suspects were involved in the attack and fled before officers arrived. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
