NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A years-long federal drug trafficking investigation culminated this week with five arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of cocaine and fentanyl in western Pennsylvania, according to the FBI.
Federal agents and local law enforcement officers executed multiple arrest warrants across Lawrence County on Tuesday morning as part of an operation targeting an alleged drug trafficking network accused of distributing dangerous narcotics throughout the region.
Cocaine and Fentanyl Seized
Investigators say they recovered approximately 650 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of fentanyl during the operation.
Officials warned that the amount of fentanyl seized posed a serious threat to public safety.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the drugs confiscated during the investigation had the potential to cause hundreds of overdose deaths if distributed on the streets.
Five Suspects Arrested
According to the FBI, Deion Mercer, Evans Lindsey, and Latina Lindsey were among those arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.
Two additional suspects were also taken into custody, though authorities have not yet publicly released their identities.
The suspects are facing federal charges related to drug trafficking activities.
Multi-State Drug Network Alleged
Federal investigators allege the organization traveled to states including Michigan and Texas to obtain large quantities of cocaine and fentanyl before transporting the drugs back to western Pennsylvania for distribution.
Authorities believe the network had been operating since at least 2024 and was responsible for supplying illegal narcotics throughout Lawrence County and surrounding communities.
Officials described the case as the result of extensive investigative work involving federal, state, and local agencies.
Repeat Offender Among Defendants
Court documents indicate that one of the defendants, Deion Mercer, has previously been convicted in two separate federal drug cases and served prison sentences related to narcotics offenses.
Prosecutors say the latest arrests demonstrate law enforcement’s continued focus on dismantling repeat drug trafficking operations and targeting individuals responsible for distributing deadly substances.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation remains ongoing.
Federal prosecutors are expected to pursue charges against those accused of participating in the trafficking organization.
As with all criminal cases, the allegations remain unproven unless established in court.
