LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have released body camera and surveillance footage showing the moments leading up to a deadly officer-involved shooting involving a man who allegedly opened fire in public with a semi-automatic shotgun.
According to police, the incident unfolded Wednesday when officers responded to reports of an armed individual firing shots in a busy area of the city.
Video Shows Suspect Firing Into Traffic
Newly released surveillance footage appears to show the suspect standing in the roadway and randomly firing multiple rounds toward passing traffic.
Authorities said the suspect was armed with a semi-automatic shotgun and posed an immediate threat to motorists and nearby pedestrians.
Police have now identified the suspect, although investigators have not yet released detailed information regarding a possible motive.
Officers Confront Armed Man
Body camera footage released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shows officers arriving at the scene and confronting the armed suspect.
According to investigators, officers repeatedly assessed the rapidly evolving threat as the man continued to endanger members of the public.
The footage then shows officers opening fire, striking the suspect and bringing the incident to an end.
The man was pronounced dead following the shooting.
