Glenview, Illinois: A Northbrook couple has filed a lawsuit against childcare providers after alleging their four-year-old twins were physically abused by a daycare employee while attending a facility in Glenview.
Nathan and Patrick Shine have named KinderCare Learning Companies, The Crème School, and a former employee in the lawsuit, claiming the children suffered harm while under the daycare’s supervision.
According to court documents, the parents were first informed on February 24, 2026, about an incident involving their son during nap time at the Glenview facility on Patriot Boulevard.
The family alleges that surveillance footage reviewed by staff showed a teacher becoming frustrated before grabbing the boy by the hair, pulling him toward her, lifting him by the neck and shoulders, and throwing him onto a cot.
The daycare reportedly removed the employee from the classroom immediately after the incident and provided the parents with a written report. Concerned by the allegations, the family filed a police report and sought medical treatment for their son.
However, the parents say they later learned through investigators that their daughter had allegedly been harmed by the same employee on the same day.
According to the lawsuit, officers from the Glenview Police Department contacted the family after reviewing additional surveillance footage, which allegedly showed a separate incident involving the girl. The parents claim they were never informed by the daycare that their daughter had also been involved.
“The piece that is incredibly frustrating is that to this day, no one from the facility has ever mentioned anything happened to our daughter,” Nathan Shine said.
The family’s attorney, Steven Vanderporten, alleged that daycare officials reviewed the footage but failed to disclose the second incident to the parents.
The former employee has since been charged with five misdemeanor counts of battery and is scheduled to return to court in August. Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services continues its investigation into the matter.
The lawsuit seeks damages and accountability from the daycare operators, alleging failures in child protection, incident reporting, and supervision.
The allegations remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings, and no findings of liability have yet been made by the court.
