West Sacramento, California, USA: A three-year-old child was hospitalized after being struck by a bullet that was allegedly fired from a neighboring apartment in West Sacramento on Friday afternoon, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:50 p.m. in the 3400 block of Evergreen Circle. During their investigation, authorities determined that the shots originated from a nearby apartment.
Police said a bullet traveled through a wall and struck the toddler inside an adjacent residence.
Emergency responders transported the child to a local hospital. Authorities reported that the toddler’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Following the incident, officers located and arrested the suspected shooter. Police have not publicly identified the suspect, and investigators said there is no indication that any other individuals were involved.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
