Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Shooting Following Carjacking in North Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he fatally shot a father and wounded another person following a carjacking and subsequent pursuit in north Houston.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as London Hogan Sr., 37, who has been charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Hogan is currently being held in the Harris County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

According to investigators, the incident began Saturday when a blue Chevrolet Silverado belonging to the son of 56-year-old Louis Erebia was allegedly stolen at gunpoint. Authorities said the victim was approached by a man who asked questions about the truck before allegedly displaying a firearm and taking the vehicle.

Using a GPS tracking system installed in the truck, Erebia, his son, and a family friend were able to locate the stolen vehicle. Investigators said they followed two suspects — a man and a woman — to an area near Airline Drive and the North Loop.

Authorities said a crash involving the stolen truck occurred near a gas station, leaving the vehicle disabled. Following the collision, the suspects exited the truck, and a confrontation ensued.

Sheriff Gonzalez said Hogan allegedly opened fire during the encounter, striking Erebia and a family friend. Both victims were transported to a hospital. Erebia later died from his injuries, while the second victim is expected to survive.

Crime scene investigators and homicide detectives responded to the scene and launched an investigation that ultimately led to Hogan’s arrest.

On Sunday, Erebia’s family released photographs and a statement through a victim advocate and family representative, remembering him as a devoted husband, father of five, and grandfather of three.

“Some may question why he chased after the suspects. In a moment of fear and chaos, none of us can say exactly how we would react when someone we love is in danger,” the family said in a statement.

The statement continued: “One thing is certain, Louis did not lose his life because he was reckless; he lost his life because he was courageous. We will honor his legacy by continuing to live with the same faith, selflessness, courage, and love that defined his life.”

The family added that Erebia was deeply loved and will never be forgotten.

A news conference involving Crime Stoppers and members of the Erebia family is scheduled for Monday as investigators continue to seek information related to the case.

The investigation remains ongoing.
