A 35-year-old man has died and another man has been seriously injured following a double stabbing in the Silvertown area of Newham, east London.
Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Pankhurst Avenue at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5. Officers responding to the incident discovered a 35-year-old man suffering from stab wounds in the garden of a property near Rayleigh Road.
Emergency services attended the scene, and the victim was taken to hospital. However, despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead.
A second victim, a man in his 20s, was also found with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to hospital for treatment, and authorities have confirmed that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Following the incident, police arrested three individuals near the scene. A 25-year-old woman and two men aged 24 and 27 were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. All three remain in police custody while investigations continue.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the deceased man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command expressed condolences to the victim’s family and reassured local residents that a significant police presence remains in the area.
“My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died,” DCI Yorke said. “I know that the community will be understandably concerned by the incident. There remains a large police presence in the area, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak with officers at the scene.”
She added that investigators are continuing their inquiries and appealed to the public for assistance.
“Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace. I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police,” she said.
A murder investigation is now underway as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
