A fisherman in Massachusetts experienced the catch of a lifetime after reeling in a great white shark from the waters off Nantucket Island.
Elliot Sudal was fishing from the shore when he hooked the massive predator, leading to an intense 40-minute battle before he was finally able to bring the shark close enough to the beach.
According to local reports, Sudal carefully handled the rare catch and managed to unhook the shark in just 15 seconds before releasing it back into the ocean.
Great white sharks are among the most iconic marine predators in the world and are commonly found in waters off the northeastern United States, particularly around Cape Cod and Nantucket, where seal populations have increased in recent years.
Sudal’s encounter quickly attracted attention due to the rarity of successfully landing and safely releasing a great white shark from shore. Wildlife experts generally encourage catch-and-release practices when dealing with protected marine species to minimize stress and injury to the animal.
The shark reportedly swam away after being released, bringing a remarkable fishing adventure to a successful conclusion.
The incident highlights the growing presence of great white sharks along parts of the Massachusetts coastline and serves as a reminder of the diverse marine life inhabiting the region’s waters.
