Sydney Woman Pleads Guilty After Crashing Into Multiple Cars While More Than Five Times Over Legal Alcohol Limit
A Sydney woman has pleaded guilty in what has been described as one of the worst drink-driving cases seen in recent years after crashing into multiple vehicles while allegedly more than five times over the legal alcohol limit.
Elizabeth Bourgeois, 62, was caught on camera in March reversing out of a supermarket car park in Turramurra before colliding with several vehicles. The incident caused extensive damage and created a dangerous situation for other motorists and pedestrians in the area.
According to authorities, Bourgeois struck five vehicles during the incident, including one car that had a newborn baby sitting in the back seat at the time of the crash.
Police later conducted a breath test and allegedly found Bourgeois had a blood alcohol reading of more than five times the legal limit. Prosecutors described the reading as extraordinarily high and indicative of severe impairment.
The woman appeared in court and pleaded guilty to negligent driving and drink-driving offences. The court heard details of the supermarket car park crash and the damage caused to multiple vehicles.
Fortunately, despite the seriousness of the incident and the presence of a newborn child in one of the impacted vehicles, no major injuries were reported.
