Students at Camrose Composite High School in Alberta staged a protest on Wednesday, demanding stronger action after a series of disturbing Snapchat messages allegedly containing graphic references to sexual violence and harm against female students surfaced.
Around 100 students gathered outside the school wearing red and chanting, “We say no! We say no! Rape and violence got to go!” The demonstration was organized to raise awareness about the messages and express frustration over what students believe has been an inadequate response from school officials.The controversy centers on a Snapchat group chat involving several youths, with messages dating back to late 2025. According to students, the conversations contained explicit and disturbing comments allegedly targeting female students in the community.
Many protesters said they were upset not only by the content of the messages but also by how the situation has been handled by school administrators and authorities. Grade 12 student Sasha Covino said the messages left many girls feeling unsafe at school. She described the content as disturbing and called for stronger consequences against those involved.

Students at the protest also expressed anger over reports that an adult associated with the school allegedly referred to the incident as “boys will be boys.” Protesters argued that such comments minimize the seriousness of threats and discussions involving sexual violence.Several students said they believe the response from the school has failed to reassure female students that their safety is being taken seriously. Some participants called for the students involved in the group chat to be expelled.
The demonstration highlighted broader concerns about online behaviour, harassment, and school safety. Protesters said they wanted school officials to take stronger action and provide clearer communication about measures being implemented to protect students.
Many of those attending the rally said the incident has created anxiety among female students, with some questioning whether enough is being done to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
The school division and local authorities continue to face pressure from students and community members seeking accountability and stronger safeguards following the emergence of the messages.
