A man has been arrested while another remains on the run after a dramatic crash involving a vehicle fitted with allegedly stolen number plates in Melbourne’s southeast.
The incident unfolded in Knoxfield shortly after 1pm when the vehicle collided with an SUV driven by an innocent woman. The force of the impact caused the SUV to roll onto its side, leaving emergency crews scrambling to the scene.
Paramedics treated the woman at the crash site before specialist paramedics transported her to Dandenong Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police quickly moved in following the collision, arresting one male occupant of the suspect vehicle. A second man fled the scene and remains outstanding as officers continue their search.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash and the use of the allegedly stolen number plates. Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
The crash caused significant disruption in Knoxfield as emergency services worked to assist the injured woman, secure the scene and investigate the incident.
Police inquiries remain ongoing.
