Nuh, Haryana: A suspected cattle smuggler was injured in an exchange of fire with police during an anti-smuggling operation in Haryana’s Nuh district on Thursday. The accused allegedly opened fire on a police team, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defence, officials said.
The incident took place in the Rawli Bandh area of Ferozepur Jhirka, where the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team had launched a raid following specific intelligence inputs about suspected cattle smuggling activity.
Police identified the accused as Jamshed, son of Abdul Ali, a resident of Agon village in Ferozepur Jhirka. During the exchange of fire, Jamshed sustained bullet injuries to both legs and was taken into custody. He was immediately shifted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Medical College in Nalhar, where he is undergoing treatment under police security.
According to police, the operation was carried out by the Ferozepur Jhirka CIA staff under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Mahendra. As officers attempted to intercept the suspect, he allegedly fired at the police team in an attempt to escape. The officers returned fire, injuring him in the legs before successfully overpowering and arresting him.
During the operation, police rescued three cows that were allegedly being transported for illegal smuggling. Officers also recovered a country-made pistol, several live cartridges and other items believed to have been used in the crime. The rescued cattle were shifted to a safe shelter.
