Three Women Plead Guilty in $4,000 Retail Theft Case in Jonesboro

Three women have pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from multiple retail stores in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

According to court records, Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Chris Thyer sentenced Mikayla James, Bailey Brown-Olloway, and Hannah Leach to 36 months of probation after they each pleaded guilty to:

  • Organized retail theft
  • Theft of property valued between $1,000 and $5,000

Both offenses are classified as Class D felonies under Arkansas law.

Investigation Began with Store Surveillance

The case stemmed from an investigation launched on January 31, when a detective with the Jonesboro Police Department reviewed surveillance footage from several stores that had reported retail thefts.

Police later stopped a vehicle suspected of being connected to the incidents. Inside were James, Brown-Olloway, and Leach.

According to a probable cause affidavit, James admitted during a post-arrest interview that the vehicle contained a significant amount of stolen merchandise. Based on that statement, officers searched the vehicle and discovered numerous new retail items believed to have been stolen.

Thefts Captured on Camera

Investigators said surveillance footage from multiple stores showed the three women working together during the thefts.

According to the affidavit:

  • James allegedly attempted to block security cameras.
  • Brown-Olloway and Leach were seen concealing merchandise in their purses and on their persons.
  • The group then left stores without paying for the items.
  • Footage also allegedly showed James personally taking merchandise.

The women reportedly admitted they had visited several retail stores throughout Jonesboro.

Additional Charges Dropped

As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped misdemeanor charges against Leach, including:

  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Sentencing Outcome

Rather than serving prison time, all three defendants received three years of supervised probation. The guilty pleas bring an end to a case that authorities described as an organized retail theft operation spanning multiple stores in the Jonesboro area.

Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the growing challenge of organized retail theft, which often involves coordinated groups targeting multiple businesses during a single crime spree.
