Perth Doctor Now Accused of 53 Child Sex Offences
A Perth paediatrician accused of secretly recording and sexually abusing child patients is now facing 53 criminal charges, with prosecutors telling a Western Australian court that investigators have identified additional alleged victims and expect more charges to follow.
Dr Chia Liang Saw, 41, appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday after prosecutors filed 20 new charges, significantly expanding what has become one of Western Australia’s most serious child exploitation investigations in recent years.
The allegations remain unproven, and Dr Saw has not been convicted of any offence.
Police Allege Hidden Cameras Were Installed in Consulting Rooms
According to prosecutors, Dr Saw allegedly installed hidden cameras inside his consulting rooms in Nedlands and Midland, where he treated children, including patients with behavioural conditions such as ADHD.
Investigators allege the cameras were used to secretly record children during medical consultations.
Police claim the accused also produced and possessed child exploitation material and engaged in unlawful sexual conduct involving children.
The court heard investigators believe some evidence may have been deliberately deleted, with prosecutors alleging the doctor admitted removing incriminating material from electronic devices.

Ten Alleged Victims Identified
Prosecutors told the court that police have currently identified 10 alleged victims.
The alleged victims include:
- Eight girls aged between 12 and 15 who were reportedly patients at the doctor’s clinics.
- A 10-year-old girl whom police allege was abused at a residential property.
- A 13-year-old girl allegedly exploited online.
The court was also told that investigators interviewed another child over the weekend and believe at least seven additional potential victims may have been identified.
Police indicated that further charges could be laid as the investigation continues.
Allegations Extend Beyond Medical Clinics
In addition to the alleged offences involving child patients, prosecutors claim Dr Saw used social media and online platforms to contact minors. The court heard allegations that he used a “Sugar Daddy” dating website to allegedly target underage girls.
Prosecutors further alleged that internet searches recovered during the investigation included the phrase “Doctor Saw paedophile.”
The court also heard allegations that inappropriate emails were sent to one alleged victim while the child was at school and that the accused allegedly waited outside the child’s school and home. These allegations have not been tested in court.
Medical Registration Suspended
Following his arrest in May, Dr Saw’s medical registration was suspended.
He previously worked as a paediatrician treating children with behavioural and developmental conditions.
His practice primarily involved young patients referred for conditions such as ADHD and related behavioural concerns.
The latest charges significantly expand the scope of the case beyond the allegations originally filed when he was first arrested.
Bail Hearing Continues
The new allegations were revealed during a part-heard bail application before the Perth Magistrates Court.
Prosecutors argued that the investigation remains active and that additional complainants continue to come forward.
Police are continuing forensic examinations of electronic devices, digital communications and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
No trial date has yet been set.
Investigation Still Ongoing
Western Australia Police have indicated that the investigation remains in its early stages and are continuing to examine evidence obtained during searches and witness interviews.
Authorities expect the total number of charges may increase if further alleged victims are identified.
As legal proceedings continue, the allegations against Dr Saw remain before the courts, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty in court.
