Australian Man Charged After 17-Year-Old Thai Girl’s Body Found in Suitcase
A shocking murder investigation in Thailand has taken an international turn after an Australian man was arrested over the death of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was allegedly hidden inside a suitcase and abandoned near a railway line in Pattaya.
Thai authorities say the suspect, Simon Peter Carman, an Australian man in his 40s, was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport as he allegedly attempted to board a flight back to Australia. Police claim the arrest came after investigators pieced together CCTV footage tracing his movements before and after the teenager’s disappearance.
The case has sparked widespread outrage in both Thailand and Australia, with officials describing the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death as deeply disturbing.
CCTV Footage Became the Breakthrough
According to Thai police, investigators reviewed surveillance footage from a condominium in Pattaya that allegedly showed Carman entering the building with the teenage girl.
Hours later, the footage reportedly captured him leaving the property alone while carrying a large suitcase.
Police allege that the suspect then transported the suitcase on a motorcycle before travelling to a grassy area near a railway line, where the body was later discovered.
Investigators believe the CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspect and securing an arrest warrant.
Authorities moved quickly after tracking his movements, detaining him at Bangkok’s main international airport before he could leave Thailand.
Multiple Serious Charges Filed
Thai police have charged Simon Peter Carman with multiple offences, including:
- Murder
- Concealing a body
- Moving or destroying a body
- Taking a minor for sexual purposes
The investigation remains ongoing as forensic teams continue examining evidence recovered from the crime scene and the condominium where the pair were last seen together.
Police have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the alleged killing.
Family Devastated by Teenager’s Death
The victim’s family has spoken publicly of their heartbreak following the discovery of the 17-year-old’s body.
Relatives described the loss as unimaginable and said they were devastated by the tragedy.

Australian Government Responds
Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, described the case as “horrific” while expressing sympathy for the victim’s family and loved ones.
Speaking to reporters, Wong said the Australian Government would continue providing standard consular assistance to Australian citizens detained overseas but stressed that such support does not interfere with local legal proceedings.
She declined to discuss details of any assistance being provided to the accused, citing privacy obligations.
Under Australia’s consular policy, officials can provide welfare support, recommend local legal representation and help ensure detainees’ basic needs are met. However, the government cannot exempt Australian citizens from the laws or penalties of another country, including serious criminal charges.
In cases where an Australian faces the death penalty overseas, financial assistance for legal representation may be available under specific circumstances.
