Bengaluru: Police have arrested a 23-year-old man accused of carrying out a bizarre series of thefts in Bengaluru’s upscale Indiranagar neighbourhood, where he allegedly stole women’s undergarments from apartment terraces, wore them overnight, and returned the used garments the following day before stealing new ones. The unusual case came to light after two women installed a hidden CCTV camera that captured the suspect in the act.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Husain, a native of Assam who was reportedly working as a delivery agent in Bengaluru. According to police, the incidents occurred in Hoysala Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Indiranagar Police Station. Residents had been puzzled for weeks after freshly washed undergarments repeatedly disappeared overnight, only for previously stolen ones to mysteriously reappear the next morning.
The repeated incidents left two women disturbed and suspicious. To identify the culprit, they installed a hidden camera overlooking the clothes-drying area on the terrace. At around 3 am on July 2, the camera allegedly captured Abdul Husain first placing back a previously stolen undergarment before taking a fresh one from the clothesline and leaving the premises. The footage was handed over to police, leading to his arrest.
During the investigation, police alleged that the accused followed a disturbing pattern. He would allegedly steal women’s undergarments at night, wear them once, and then secretly return the used item the next day while stealing another garment. Investigators believe he repeated the behaviour multiple times, causing fear and confusion among residents.
