Bengaluru: A 27-year-old man from Tripura allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru after reportedly struggling with severe emotional trauma following an alleged assault by friends that left him with serious injuries to his private parts.
The deceased, identified as Tapan Nath, was living in a rented house in the Ejipura area under the limits of the Viveknagar Police Station. He worked at a pub in Koramangala and was known to regularly report for his night shift.
Concern arose on July 12 when Nath failed to arrive for work by around 11.30 pm. A roommate, who was also employed at the same pub, returned to their rented accommodation to check on him and allegedly found Nath hanging inside the house. Police were informed immediately, and the body was shifted for a post-mortem examination.
Victim : Tapan Nath

According to the complaint filed by Nath’s family, the tragedy may have stemmed from an incident that occurred three to four months earlier during a party. Family members alleged that several of Nath’s friends, who were intoxicated, assaulted him during an argument, causing severe injuries to his private parts.
Relatives claimed Nath sought medical treatment on his own and did not initially inform his family due to embarrassment. They further alleged that doctors later told him the injuries could permanently affect his ability to father children, leaving him devastated and pushing him into depression.
Police said an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) has been registered based on the family’s complaint. Investigators are expected to question Nath’s friends, examine his medical records and verify the allegations surrounding the earlier assault before determining whether any criminal offences were committed. Authorities have stressed that the exact circumstances leading to his death are still under investigation and the family’s claims are yet to be independently verified.
The incident has sparked concern over the long-term psychological impact of violent assaults and the importance of timely mental health support for victims dealing with physical and emotional trauma.
