BARRIE, Ontario — A 63-year-old Barrie man died Friday afternoon following a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at a busy intersection in the city, police said. Emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Big Bay Point Road and Hurst Drive at approximately 4:15 p.m. on June 19.
According to Barrie Police Service, the collision involved a motorcycle and a car. The motorcyclist, a 63-year-old Barrie resident, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Police said several bystanders rushed to assist the victim and immediately began providing first aid while emergency responders were en route. Despite their efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car remained at the location following the collision and did not sustain serious injuries, investigators said.
Members of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and front-line patrol officers attended the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities closed roads in the area to allow investigators to document evidence and reconstruct the collision. Police said the closures would remain in effect until the investigation is completed.
No information regarding potential charges or the cause of the crash has been released. Investigators continue to examine the events leading up to the fatal collision and are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident to contact police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
