Man Convicted of Sharing and Possessing Islamist Terrorist Material

A 20-year-old man from south London has been convicted of sharing and possessing Islamist terrorist material following a Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London investigation.

Shuja Gibraeel Mohsin, of Mitcham, was found guilty on June 19 after a two-week trial at the Old Bailey. Authorities said the investigation revealed that Mohsin had been engaging with extremist content and ideologies from a young age.

Commander Helen Flanagan, head of CTP London, said the case highlights a growing concern about children and young people being exposed to dangerous extremist material online. She urged parents and carers to take an active interest in their children’s internet activity and seek support if they notice signs of radicalisation.

Mohsin first came to the attention of authorities in January 2024 when Counter Terrorism officers stopped him at Heathrow Airport after he returned from a trip to Pakistan. During a Schedule 7 examination, officers seized his mobile phone for further analysis.

Subsequent examinations of the device and a USB storage drive uncovered evidence that Mohsin had accessed extremist content and joined online groups linked to proscribed terrorist organisations, including Daesh, Hamas and the Taliban. Investigators also discovered material of particular concern, including a bomb-making manual and Daesh execution videos that had been shared with an online contact.

Mohsin was arrested in March 2024, and his computer was seized for forensic examination. He was arrested again in July 2024 and questioned by detectives regarding the material found on his devices but declined to answer questions.

He is due to be sentenced at a later date.
