Suspect Arrested After Rochester Carjacking, Police Search for Additional Suspects
A 20-year-old man has been arrested following an early morning carjacking in Rochester, New York, while police continue searching for other suspects who fled after a brief pursuit.
According to the Rochester Police Department, the incident began at approximately 12:55 a.m. Tuesday on Ames Street, where a 30-year-old woman had pulled over after experiencing what she believed were mechanical problems with her vehicle.
Investigators said the woman was approached by multiple suspects. A female suspect allegedly threw the victim to the ground while a male suspect got behind the wheel and drove off in the stolen vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries during the robbery but did not require hospitalization.M
At around 1:11 a.m., officers spotted the stolen vehicle being driven on North Plymouth Avenue. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over, prompting a short pursuit through city streets.
The chase came to an end when the stolen vehicle crashed into a parked, unoccupied car near the intersection of Warner Street and Wolf Street. The occupants then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers quickly apprehended one suspect, identified as a 20-year-old man, while other suspects managed to escape. He is expected to face charges of second-degree robbery and third-degree grand larceny.
Police have not released the suspect’s identity because the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are working to identify and locate the remaining suspects and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
